Wear Matte and be Merry

Merry Mattes matte lipstick set now 40% off!

Love matte, not sure how to wear it? Mattes are tough. They can be both resilient and revealing, seeping into all of our lines and emphasizing application imperfections.

But they also look fierce and wear all day long, making them worth the extra effort. We're sharing a few pointers, so you can be well on your way to matte-nificence.

What to Wear?...What to Wear?

The first decision to consider is color. This varies per occasion, outfit, and your look of choice. So what better place to begin than a full range of matte shades like the Merry Mattes set? From bold, punchy orange, to festive red, to more subdued neutral shades, the Merry Mattes lipstick set will have you mattified and modern-looking for any occasion.

It Can be as Easy as it Looks

Here’s our foolproof process for a prepped and pretty matte lip look:

Dry, dead skin on your lips is often accentuated by matte lipstick. To ensure dry lips don't become a problem, exfoliate your lips at the beginning of your beauty routine. We like to make our own exfoliator by mixing a little bit of honey with brown sugar, and gently scrubbing our lips with a clean finger or soft bristle toothbrush.

Matte lipsticks get a bad rap for being drying--but they don't have to be! To combat dehydrated lips, apply a highly emollient moisturizer like coconut oil. This will act as a base coat--soothing damaged skin, trapping in moisture, and filling any lip cracks to ensure the color goes on smoothly.

Let the lip balm settle. Applying your matte color immediately after moisturizing will make for a runny finish. Instead, apply the rest of your makeup (do your hair, paint your nails) while the balm is absorbed.

Use a lip liner to create a border and outline the exact shape you’re looking to achieve. Filling in with liner will also make sure you only have to apply your lip color once!

Feel free to apply straight from the lipstick tube, but a brush works as well--brushes can help you be as precise as possible. Wait a few minutes before eating or drinking to let the color set.

Make sure there’s none on your teeth and prepare to receive compliments.
